Let's start with something fun. My sister, April, Sent these to me for Easter, They are so cute, I'm just not sure I can use them! I think the frog is my favorite.
This is what the Easter Bunny brought me. So far I've seen a few purple finches (I think). Maybe next year I can get a western bird guide (not to be confused with a western BIRD guide because I'm pretty up-to-date on all things BIRD)
Since Nathan is on deployment, I think I'm safe posting his birthday card on here. Tee Hee Hee. He may be bigger than me now, but I can still tease him like a big sister should.
Ok, this is where it starts to get not so nice. I tripped over my toe while walking barefoot in my office. I don't know why people keep insisting that I am clumsy or accident prone. I'm just not used to having toes yet!
For those of you who don't know, I'm taking Microbiology this summer. This is a culture from my lab partner's nose. Kind of grody, no?
Not as grody as my throat culture!
Originally the whole plate was pink but it turns yellow as the bacteria ferment the Mannitol (If you're not sure exactly what Mannitol is, look it up b/c I haven't studied for that quiz yet.)
You can clearly see all of the bacteria that we were able to grow from my throat. My other lab partner (I have two) did the skin swab. She showers . . . No growth at all.
Oh, you were thinking, at least it is in her throat, I don't come in contact with that. Yeah. Check out the lips. This is a Blood Agar made with sheep blood. No, I did not lick my lips after I kissed it. I promptly wiped them off. The few spots at the top of the plate are from my DIRTY fingers. The clumps of colonies at the bottom are from my CLEAN fingers. Washed them with lab soap.
I couldn't decide which picture was more disgusting, so I just put both.
Here is another throat culture! Yay! It makes me want to gargle with some industrial cleaner but I won't do it. Don't you worry!
This is "Unknown A" on a Bile Esculin plate. We determined that "Unknown A" is Streptococcus Faecalis. It grows in your intestines and helps digest food. And turns black on a bile esculin plate.
